In the early 90’s, Silke moved here from Germany with her husband. She quickly realized that there weren’t any breads here like she was used to in Europe. Without any prior knowledge of baking, especially not bread making, she set out on her journey to learn the craft and bring great artisan bread and German treats to Clarksville.
After two years of research and trial and error, she and her husband built a commercial kitchen with a wood fire oven onto their garage and began selling fresh homemade bread in 2000. They opened the café in 2005, and then the deli in 2012. At Silke’s, they pride themselves on catering to everyone’s needs. Silke is vegetarian, so she makes sure that the bakery has great vegan and vegetarian options as well as gluten-free options. Everything they serve is fresh and never frozen. They don’t take any shortcuts when it comes to their food. They, of course, have traditional German meats, cheeses, and other European foods.
Silke’s Old World Bakery will be celebrating the 21st birthday of their bakery and the 16th birthday of their café on November 17 from 9:30am-4pm. You can stop in and help them celebrate. Try some of their great European-style pizza or their fresh bread, and we highly suggest you grab a tasty dessert, like their Black Forest Cake. They’ll have drawings, prizes and of course birthday cake!
Congratulations on 21 years!! We are so grateful to have you here in Clarksville!
